    Council for Exceptional Children is an international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted.

    What is CEC?
    “The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the leading voice for special and gifted education. Through the vision and dedication of more than 27,000 members, CEC sets the standard for high quality education for children and youth with exceptionalities. The Council ensures the needs of children and youth with exceptionalities are met in educational legislation, establishes professional standards for the field and develops initiatives to improve special education practice. CEC is THE source for information, resources and professional development for special educators” (Council for Exceptional Children, 2016).

    The State/Provincial Unit chapter of CEC at Peru State College provides a means for networking, professional development, and information-sharing for members.  We are primarily made up of elementary and secondary education majors, all with a particular interest in special education and an internal drive to better the field while also growing personally and professionally.  Students of all majors and interests are encouraged and welcome to join!  We believe that, each individual member brings with them his/her own personal strengths and ask for the active participation of all members.

     How much does it cost?
    In order to join the student chapter at Peru State, there is a minimal fee of $15.00.

    When and where are the meetings?
    Council for Exceptional Children meets every Thursday at 11:00 in TJ Majors 230.

  • Being the oldest club on campus, math club engages campus students and faculty to take interest in math beyond the classroom. The organization also holds competitions for local high school kids. Community concerns are a top priority with many members living in surrounding areas. Bonding with activities related to math or other interests of its members gives us common ground and better understanding on how others work through different scenarios.

  • Peru State College's education organization for all education majors. Peru Student Education Association is for potential teachers and is affiliated with the Nebraska State Education Association and the National Education Association. Our activities are devoted to the improvement of education.

    The Peru State Times is the official student newspaper of Peru State College. The College’s students write and design each issue. Paid positions with the Times are available. For additional information, contact the Times’ Faculty Advisor, Dr. Kristi Nies, knies@peru.edu.

    The Times, the official student newspaper of Peru State College, is published four times per semester by Peru State College students.

    All students who work for the Times are compensated for their contribution. Pay is based on various works including articles, cartoons, photos, submitted as well as time spent editing and designing the paper. Please contact the Editor-in-Chief for more information about job availability and job descriptions.

    The opinions expressed in the Times may not be those of the entire Editorial Staff. The Peru State Times is an independent student publication funded by student publication fees. The views expressed in this publication do not necessarily reflect the view of the administration, faculty or staff of Peru State College.

  • Peru Theatre Company is a 4050 academic club that is open to everyone. Our primary goal is to work together to create original and established works of theatre for the campus community and the community at large. PTC members collaborate on productions as actors, directors, playwrights, designers, stage managers, dramaturgs and more. Members have the opportunity to see theatre across the region, to work with other campus clubs and to participate in workshops with guest theatre artists from around the globe. Club members attend The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival each January, participate in the Research & Creativity Expo in the Spring and find their Peru State family in the theatre.

    Meet Our Director

    Laura Lippman is the Associate Professor of Theatre at Peru State College and serves as the Artistic Director of Peru Theatre Company. Recent PTC directing/producing credits include Love Song, Proof, Everybody, Dead Man’s Cell Phone and Topdog/Underdog. She is especially proud of their annual production The Disco Citizens—30 plays in 60 minutes, or your pizza is free! Inspired by the work of Chicago’s Neo-Futurists, this fast-paced evening of original student plays is performed in random order determined by the audience each night. In addition to   fostering new work at Peru, Laura serves as the Co-Vice Chair of the National Playwrighting Program with The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 5. As an actor and director, Laura collaborates with OmniArts, Flatwater Shakespeare Company and Angels Theatre Company in Lincoln, NE.

  • Peru State College's Education Honor Society

    Kappa Delta Pi is a national honorary education fraternity open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who meet a certain set of criteria including: GPA, number of education classes, etc. and who show evidence of continued interest in education.
