Giving

Private support of Peru State College allows you to change students' lives. Your gift directly impacts students through scholarships and enriched programs. Every gift, regardless of the amount, supports the important role the College plays in preparing students for their futures.

There are many ways to give to Peru State College. Gifts such as cash, stock, and property allow the Foundation to put your dollars to work immediately while deferred gifts benefit Peru State in the future. You may designate your gift to a department, program or scholarship of your choice, or you can make an unrestricted gift which allows the College to use your gift where it is needed most.

How to Designate Your Gift

Give to what you are passionate about at Peru State.  Designate your gift by indicating on the payroll deduction form, online giving form, on your check or in-person what you would like your gift to go toward.

Examples include the Choral Music Fund, Feeding 44, general scholarships, the annual fund that helps support the College's areas of greatest need, the Professional Staff Senate scholarship and more.  If you have questions about how to designate, contact the Peru State College Foundation at 402-872-2304.

  • Each year hundreds of Peru State College alumni and friends make the College a top priority by giving annually. These gifts, regardless of size, are greatly appreciated. The first gift of a new graduate is just as important as the sizable contribution of a long-time donor. Both represent a real commitment to Peru State.

Annual gifts can be designated to the College program or a scholarship of your choice. By making an annual gift you are helping to fund a level of excellence not supported through state appropriations. Investing in Peru State College through annual gifts allows you to truly make a difference in the lives of today’s students and offer them opportunities they might not otherwise afford.

Examples of Programs Supported by Annual Giving:

    Student Engagement Enhancement Grants

Student Engagement Enhancement Grants give students unique experiences in the classroom and beyond, and provide committed and caring faculty with new resources to support learning.

    Admissions

The annual fund helps support all prospective student visits and orientations to support Peru State College’s initiative of increasing the student population.

    Food Fund

The College has a "Food Fund" which can be utilized to help students who are in need of assistance.

    Employer Matching Gifts

Many companies will match or multiply a donation made to charitable organizations through their matching gift programs. To find out if your company participates in such a program, ask your human resources department.

  • Annual gifts are a critical lifeline to Peru State College. Without them, we couldn’t fund our work. If you’re an annual donor, you know firsthand the satisfaction that comes from making a difference—and we deeply appreciate your generosity. But as you look to the future, you may wonder what will happen to the programs made possible through your gifts once you’re gone. How can you make sure your generosity continues forever?

One option is to make a gift in your will or trust to establish an endowment.

Here’s an example of how that could work.
Let’s say Jerry makes an annual donation of $1,000 and would like to continue his support after his lifetime. His estate planning attorney suggests that Jerry include a provision in his will to fund an endowment with a gift of $25,000. Once funded, we will use a portion of the endowment each year to fund the program of Jerry’s choice. The remainder is reinvested, which allows it to grow and support annual payouts indefinitely. This generous arrangement replaces Jerry’s $1,000 annual gift after his lifetime.* As a result, Peru State College receives the benefit of Jerry’s generosity forever.

*assuming 4 percent ($1,000) is used by the fund annually

    Give in Their Name
You can use an endowment gift to honor someone important to you who appreciates the work we do. Consider designating your endowment in his or her name as a way to celebrate the connection to Peru State College.

Peru State College was “born” in 1867, the same year Nebraska became a state. Nebraska’s first public institution of higher learning, the college then known as the Nebraska State Normal School focused on training teachers. Over the years the name has changed and the programs offered have broadened, yet the commitment to quality, affordable, accessible education remains the same.

The 1867 Society was created to enable Peru State alumni and friends to give back to the College through their estate plans, to ensure that future students have the same educational opportunities that the College made available to them. Society members ensure that the College continues to provide students with a sound education and a way to a better life.

There are many ways to become a member of The 1867 Society including:

    • Indicating in their will that Peru State College Foundation is to receive a lump sum or a percentage of their overall estate assets or the remainder of those assets after providing for other beneficiaries
    • Naming the Foundation as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, pension or savings plan
    • Transferring your home title or other real estate property to the Foundation, after death, as set forth in a will or trust document

Membership in the Society requires that the Foundation be informed about the individual’s plans to include Peru State College in estate plans; a copy of the relevant documentation is desirable.

Please join other alumni and friends who have become members of The 1867 Society. Take your place beside those who celebrate Peru State’s history of making a difference. Help ensure that the College remains strong and thrives into the future.  Click here for questions regarding your estate planning.
